BACKGROUND

IRC-UK

Our European headquarters, IRC-UK, were established in London in 1997 to support the organisation’s global activities and particularly to diversify its donor base and be able to better advocate with European policy-makers on behalf of the people we serve. Since its establishment IRC-UK has grown rapidly and is now acknowledged for its high quality project management, technical expertise in governance and rights and economic recovery, and innovative thinking on early recovery and gender based violence. The IRC also has offices in Berlin, Brussels and Geneva.

IRC-UK comprises approximately 120 staff across five departments.

 

FUNDRAISING DEPARTMENT

IRC-UK’s fundraising capability and income has grown significantly over the past 3 years, with the corporate partnerships team in particular, growing three-fold in the past year.  There are ambitious plans to continue this trend and significantly increase income over the next 3 years. The Corporate Partnerships Development Manager will be crucial to this.

The Purpose of the Role

The Corporate Partnerships Development Manager will identify, establish and develop new relationships with companies and corporate foundations. Working closely with the Head of Corporate Partnerships and Corporate Partnerships Manager, they will develop and deliver a leading-edge programme of corporate partnerships that deliver sustainable income and raise the profile of the IRC. Working in close collaboration with the Institutional Philanthropy and Partnerships team based at IRC headquarters, New York, they will proactively target relevant international companies and key peer-to-peer contacts ensuring a seamless approach to corporate cultivation.

Scope and Authority

Authority:

This position has responsibility for supporting delivery of the Corporate Partnerships targets (FY2019: £1.5 million).

Responsibility for Resources:

This position manages the Corporate Partnerships Business Development budget and is jointly responsible for ensuring the appropriate use and maintenance of the Corporate Partnerships part of the database. This role is responsible for ensuring that income is processed in a timely manner and is compliant with fundraising standards and regulations. 

Key Working Relationships

Internal

  • Reports to the Head of Corporate Partnerships.
  •  May line manage the Corporate Partnerships Executive.
  • Works in close coordination with managers of other fundraising functions, in particular the Trusts and Foundations Manager, the Strategic Operations Manager and the Philanthropy Manger.

  •  IRC Global Partnerships and Philanthropy GPP (colleagues in the US and Europe)
  •  IRC country and programme staff (globally)
  • IRC Policy, Advocacy, Communications, Campaigning and AMU staff (UK and US).

External

  • Senior contacts within businesses across a wide range of sectors including finance, energy, telecommunications and consumer facing-brands.
  •  Represent IRC-UK Fundraising in external networks.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Identifying and delivering new corporate partnerships (60%)

  • Refine and implement the corporate partnerships new business strategy for UK companies, working closely with the Head of Corporate Partnerships, Corporate Partnerships Account Manager and the Institutional Philanthropy & Partnerships team in the US.
  •  Develop and implement solicitation plans for key corporate audiences and ensure that ambitious corporate partnership targets are achieved, without losing sight of the long term.
  • Balance the demands of new business acquisition with a small amount of account management in order to maximize sustainable funding from corporate partnerships.
  • Acquire and maintain an excellent knowledge and understanding of IRC values and programmes and ensure the development and delivery of excellent bespoke proposals, in line with IRC grants management process and go/no go opportunity review.
  • Align the strategies, objectives, interests, and communication preferences of corporate supporters with the needs and expectations of IRC, in order to facilitate long term mutually rewarding funding partnerships (Cash, Gifts in Kind, Employee Fundraising, Sponsorship and Cause Related Marketing).
  • Act as the first touch point externally for corporate fundraising new business opportunities.
  • Ensure knowledge of corporate partnerships is widely understood, shared and acted upon across the wider fundraising team and broader organisation to maximise value and to inform strategy and programme development.
  • Maintain and increase effective use of Raiser’s Edge (Salesforce from October 2018) for data capture and donor analysis of corporate donor and stakeholder records.

Managing people and team work (25%)

  • May line manage the Corporate Partnerships Executive, and if so ensure that they have the support to maximize the potential of their role.
  •  Play an active and collaborative role in the UK Private Fundraising team, looking for opportunities to share ideas, content and best practice.
  • Build excellent relationships with all key stakeholders across the organization, crucially with colleagues in the US GPP team, technical unit advisors, regional programme staff, country directors and regional directors.
  • Build the profile of IRC’s corporate partnerships team externally by attending and contributing to sector events and resources.

Strategy and reporting (15%)

  •  Support on the development and lead on delivery of the UK Corporate Partnerships Development Strategy including analysis of market size and competitor analysis.
  •  Supply timely, accurate and detailed monthly reports for key UK and US reporting processes.
  • Ensure that resources and budgets are managed effectively and represent the best value for money. This post will have some budget holder responsibility.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of identifying, securing and developing partnerships worth five and six figures from a range of different companies.
  •  Experience securing and executing new business meetings from limited and cold leads that develop into partnerships.
  • Experience in prospect research, identification, cultivation, conversion and stewardship of companies.
  •  Experience working with Trustees, Senior Management Team and other stakeholders within an organisation to embed, promote and develop a corporate partnerships culture.
  • A demonstrable track record of increasing donations from existing corporate partnership and donors through excellent account management techniques.
  • Experience of line management, recruitment and staff development.
  • Experience working in a medium / large international organisation would be an advantage.

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  •  Knowledge and / or strong interest in trends in private sector engagement in the UK and globally.
  • Proven ability to manage, meet and monitor fundraising budgets and Key Performance Indicators.
  •  Excellent organisational skills, especially the ability to manage a complex, varied and substantial workload.
  • Driven, motivated and proactive with a solutions-based attitude and resilient in the face of setbacks.
  • Proficient networker with ability to represent the organisation at a senior level in the UK and Europe, and respond to the requirements of high level stakeholders (e.g. Board of Trustees, Executive Director and Senior Management Team).
  • Excellent relationship building skills and a polished public speaker with the confidence and ability to convey complex ideas in a compelling manner to win support internally in IRC and externally with high level major donors, trusts and foundations and corporates.

Desirable:

  • Confident user of Raiser’s Edge/Salesforce
  •  Institute of Fundraising qualification.
  • Strong commercial understanding of the value of trademarks and partnerships
